About Us
|
Trinity Episcopal Church has a long history of cohesiveness. It has weathered the challenges of prayer book revision, the ordination of women and the inclusion of gay and lesbian persons in all aspects of church life. Yet, like many parishes, Trinity is richly textured with various subgroups and underlying tensions. We share some of those tensions with many Episcopal parishes, while others are unique to our specific context as a college town. Our congregation represents different positions on a variety of continua: town vs. gown, liberal vs. conservative, traditional vs. contemporary. Some yearn for privacy, others for familiarity; some wish for more organized control, others for less; and the balance of the intellectual vs. the spiritual aspects of programming must be negotiated frequently. Trinity's people have survived and thrived, by the grace of God, by choosing connection over disconnection. The unifying forces that under gird our life together have been and continue to be our convictions: that Christ's love and acceptance of each individual is the model at the heart of our community; that liturgy is central to our life together; and that as God's pilgrim people, we need differing gifts and perspectives to illuminate our path. |
