| Lunches and Lessons for St Andre School |
|
Following 2010’s devastating earthquake, the Episcopal Diocese of Indianapolis initiated an effort to provide aid and outreach to the people of Haiti. Trinity of Bloomington has begun a partnership with St John’s Episcopal Church in Bedford and other surrounding churches to answer this call. The result is our Lunches and Lessons outreach. The roughly 120 schoolchildren of St Andre parish endure considerable hardship in their pursuit of education. Infrastructure in and around the village is poor, and many children travel considerable distance over difficult terrain to get to school. As is often the case in our own communities, the school lunches these children are provided with constitute a vital part of their overall nutrition. Currently, school lunches in St Andre consist of plain rations, typically processed rice or potatoes. We at Trinity and St John’s Bedford would like to supplement these basic rations with a more varied menu of fresh foods including fruits, vegetables, meat, and dairy. We are offering 120 shares in this program, roughly one share per child. Each share is $140. We would like to make a commitment of at least 3 years for this program, and are asking anyone who is able to consider sponsoring three years at $140 per year. Payment may be made each year, or up front. A small portion of each share will go toward modest improvements in teacher’s salaries in St Andre Parish. These are our partners in action! Please take a pledge form, and pledge if you are able. This is a great opportunity to take direct action and achieve something very real in the lives of these children and their families. Thank You!
